Championship game ...finally

Well here we are...the championship game against Team 2 who has not lost in 2 years...... well 3 now...yep we lost 21 - 6...The score doesn't reflect how tight the game actually was..at half time the score was 8 -6......Alex was not there because he was on a family trip...but I called him and gave him the news......It was upsetting that we lost because as a team we were as good as they were...we just made a few bad plays...and with 4th graders and a running clock that doesn't take long for a game to get away from you.

Nevertheless it was a banner season we were undefeated all year! We got a huge trophy...and we play our invitational game next week under the lites and televised...We are going to crush St Susanna.

One More Week...and the fairy tale ends

Weds Practice before the Championship

Well another freezing night...Alex had a great practice even if he did say"Grandpa I cant feel my fingers " He was clearly very cold but he warmed up quickly after practice on the way to McDonald's

This was his last practice before the big game that he wont be at because hes going on a family vacation to Gatlinburg.

He did tell one of the assistant coaches that he wont make the game and the coach says " lets keep this a secret for a while Im not gonna tell the head coach just yet but have a nice trip we'll cya when you return and dont forget you will be our official holder at the invitational game"

So that's it Alex is officially done with the hard stuff hes off to vacation and will return after the championship game to play in the final game of the year "The invitational televised game' Its a BIG deal.

His football story is not totally over yet we have one more week ..........................................................and the Team still has to win the Big championship this week without Alex there...
I promised him I would call him at halftime and at the end of the game with all the details...It wont be the same without him there.

Final week before the Championship game-Tuesday

Practice Tuesday was brutally cold temp got down to about 38 degrees..Alex was a trooper but I was friggin so cold that I started walking around the football field just to keep warm. It was even too cold for me to attempt to take any pics...nevertheless the team did a lot of hitting and tackling...the championship game is against another Tomahawk team Team #2 we are Team #4.

just to set the stage Team #2 has dominated the Tomahawk league for 3 ....years only losing 1 game in 3 years...They are cocky and their parents are rowdy...but they have reason to be.

This week is an important practice so we must tuff it out. On another note I think Alex wont be able to make the championship game because he may going on a family vacation this weekend.
Family always comes first grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! Its only a once in a lifetime football championship super duper season final game against the over confident Team #2.

Well I will be there even if Alex isn't...however he is being a good teammate by practicing this week even though he is going away..that shows character even for a 9yr boy.

As always I'm way proud of him...and I tell him all the time

Well another cold cold practice coming Weds..tons of fun

Saturday Playoff game against Kings

Well Here we are Our 2nd playoff game...Kings gets the ball first and their very first play of the game their QB #1 Big tall kid runs approx 40 yards for a TD..We were in shock I saw it up close and personal because I volunteered to work on the field with the down markers this way I got to be close to Alex also.
Anyway this QB was a HUGE 4th grader...he also played linebacker on their defense...we had been warned about him by other teams..and he lived up to his credentials...however there was just one issue...He did not like to be hit...and we of course are the hardest hitting 4th graders in the league...so we proceeded to gather our senses after that long run and hit hit and hit...after 4 qtrs of our hitting we ended up scorching them 24 -6 yea baby Still undefeated...how sweet is is
Alex got to play and even got in on a tackle against the QB...another plus ....all the key family members attended the game...Stephanie , Payton, Terri and KK(Home again from college) It was an amazing game , afterwards the team celebrated at BW3s...
Not much more to say..the pics should tell the story...
The championship game is next Saturday...We have had a dream season..the boys have worked extremely hard all year to get to this point. We are all extremely proud of them
One more game...One more week of practice...one more victory...

Friday

Well tonight Alex accomplished a HUGE milestone....while on defense he tackled "ALL BY HIMSELF" one of the first string running backs.....It was a great hit! And then the very next play he broke thru the line and sacked the first string quarterback...I heard the coaches say"Great hit Burton" as I smiled a sheepishly proud grandpa type smile. :)
"Boy it was freezin cold at practice and it was dark" directly after practice Alex was invited to spend the night with his buddy Drake ........so he was excited.
Tomorrow we have our final playoff game against Kings ....the stage is set for a big game. Kings supposedly has a real good quarterback and passing game..."we will see on Saturday"

We only have 3 more games Tomorrow, then the championship, and then an invitational type game that I think will be televised...Cant believe its almost over..

Guess what..."Alex wants me to sign him up to wrestle''guess the Blog will continue...Thanks Alex!

Sat 1st Playoff game Tomnahawk vs Mason

Well our 1st Playoff Game is history....and so is Mason ...22 -6 we dominated from the very start...Alex ,even though he was coming off a slight stomach virus and missing Fridays practice..He got to play offense and defense the entire 2nd half of the game. As a matter of fact the 2nd string defense had their best game ever..stopping Masons First string offense.

Mason figured once our first team came out of the game ...they would be able to score easily on our 2nd team...but they were gravely surprised our 2nd team hit them just as hard as our first team..."Boy this Tomahawk Team 4 really knows how to hit" Is the chatter in the stands.

Another special treat at the game is Peyton was there..He was a handful..never stopped talking

"grandpa this ..grandpa that" The whole first half .....however the 2nd half was different he played in the dirt under the bleachers the whole time. Dirt is a great babysitter for 4yr old boys.

Backing up a bit...pics attached show Alex and Peyton at home chillin,Peyton at the park just prior to the game, the actual game ,and the victory huddle. Next playoff is next Saturday

stay tuned.....................

Tuesday Scrimmage vs St Susanna ...the best feeling

Today was a milestone "Why you ask?"
It's simple...I'm currently out of town for the entire week..unable to attend any practices and see that Alex is there on time and not missing. so what happens....

At exactly 8:15PM( practice ends at 8:10 My phone rings

"grandpa ...I made two tackles in the scrimmage tonight and I hurt my leg ...but we still beat them 6 touchdowns to 1 touchdown"

that single call makes my whole week...that's all I can say.

He made it to practice, he played in the scrimmage, he made two tackles and he called his grandpa!

end of story!

Tomahawks vs Sharonville last league game

We WON ! 14 -0 Sharonville was BIG and they had one kid #14 That was HUGE..He ran most all of their plays on offense, he made most all of their tackles on defense...He was clearly a foot or two bigger than any of our kids...but he did not like to be hit and that's what we do we HIT HIT and then HIT some more. Our entire team got to play...Alex played a lot of the 2nd half both offense and defense....After the game we went to a local sports bar called "THE BLUE GOOSE" the boys had a great time.
Sure feels good...Kinda sad that its coming to an end soon.
Alex's first time playing football and his team goes undefeated through the season plus wins their Division. That's a stroke of good fortune. But the story is not quite finished yet...We now go into the playoffs and then the Championship game.
We have about 3 more weeks of football..and then we can have the final chapter of Alex Burton's first football adventure..I'm so proud him I dont know what to say.
I did not forget my camera this time as you can see.
