March Madness BBall Tourney starts

Well

Here it is 5PM Saturday afternoon and Alex is suited up for his first ever ball tournament game. His team Woodland Elementary is playing against Van Gordan Elementary. All 4th graders . Actually one of his football teammates Drake is on VanGorden...This will be interesting especially since Alex and his teammates hardly ever pay attention in practice. They are usually more concerned about taking wild shots and dribbling behind their back.
Well on a positive note Stephanie is here for support along with Payton. Terri and KK even showed up.........

The game begins Alex is the starting point guard...Both 4th grade teams were kind of disoriented and the score remained 0 -0 for what seemed like forever I was standing up a screaming like a old high school coach " Dribble low! hands up on D" pass it pass it pass it hustle back" The standard basketball stuff. however within a few more times up and down the court..Alex had stolen a pass and taken a shot .. NOTHING BUT NET straight in.... I screamed like a baby! "That a boy Alex" He did it, he made the first basket of the game ...can you believe it ,Alex made the first basket, the same Alex that doesn't seem to even understand the game, the same Alex that hates to practice..the same Alex that cant concentrate on any one thing for 2 minutes...He did it and that set the pace 1/2 time we were ahead 10 -0 ...At the half I was on the floor with the boys instructing them on how to keep going and how great they were doing...for the remainder of the game I watched Alex intently so that I could critique his balling afterwards...to my surprise he did pretty darn good for never playing before. He handles the ball OK for a 4th grade point guard...He hustles OK...plays defense OK...Not the best but not the worst.
Well we won the game 15 -3 and we move on in the tourney ...next game is Weds This tournament is lose one you are out.
By the way I did not critique him that much I told him he was AWESOME but to pass it more and trust that the ball will eventually come back to you. Grandpa knows these things ...its called
grandpa basketball wisdom!

I gave him a snack, a big HUG as he was on his way to a birthday party of a football teammate. I get a break...Stephanie and Payton were taking him..

Next adventure Sunday 12 noon LaCrosse game against Wyoming.
